Hola! Welcome back to Its All About Spain blog. Have you ever heard or know about the traditional food in Spain. Croquetas are ubiquitous in Spain, although they most likely originate from the French 'croquettes'. Taken from: www.gourmandbreaks.com

First and foremost, I will share about Croquettes, the traditional food in Spain. Croquetes are cylindrical, covered in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried. They are usually made with white sauce and beef, sometimes mixed with varying amounts of pork, and frequently with some chouriço, black pepper or piri-piri to add more flavour. Seafood, fish (other than codfish) and vegetarian (potato) croquetes are also eaten in Portugal, but those have other names (such as rissol, pastel, empada), thus the name croquete only refers to the Dutch-style beef croquette.

You can find Spanish a plate of croquetas in almost any restaurant or bar, each made to the establishment's own recipe. It makes food comparison throughout Spain a delight, and not at all a bad idea for judging up a restaurant's quality (hint: the traditional, scrubbed-down bars serve the best). While the creamy cheese (queso) croquettes pack a smooth flavour, try croquettes filled with a mixture of béchamel and Spanish cured ham (jamon), or the local sweet-spiced black sausage (morcilla) for something stronger.
